Someone paid $180,000 for one of Les Paul’s guitars yesterday. No, they’re not crazy. If I had the money I would waste it all on rock history as well. Here are the top 5 most expensive pieces of rock memorabilia.
#5 – Eric Clapton’s “Brownie”. It was the guitar used when he recorded “Layla” and was bought for $487,000 in 1999. I'm sure a couple lines of cocaine were ripped off that neck, too.
#4 – Jerry Garcia’s “Wolf”. Not the animal, it was one of his two custom made guitars and someone bought it for $789,500. Weird... not one good musical note came off of that thing!
#3 – Jerry Garcia’s “Tiger” – This is the other custom guitar. What happens when dead heads get money? They go insane with their money. $957,000 will get you this one… and years of acid damage will help you make it seem OK.
#2 – John Lennon’s Steinway Piano – George Michael bought this for $2.2 million and it now sits in the Beatles Story museum in Liverpool. Yea, George Michal owns it. Not a typo.
#1 – John Lennon’s Rolls Royce (pictured) – in 1985 this was bought $2.7 million which is about 5.8 million in today’s economy. That’s a lot of money for a car you’ll never drive, and look at that thing; why would you ever want to be seen in that?
